In the post-Einsteinian era, science discovered that the universe is not a haphazard world; it is a highly meaningful world, well-designed, and extremely harmonious. It appears that the universe is a centrally controlled universe. Perhaps the first scientist who pointed out that there is a mathematical mind behind the universe was Sir James Jeans. Einstein spent a large part of his life searching for a 'unified field theory'. Then, Stephen Hawking introduced what is called single string theory which developed into the unifying M-Theory which is one of the candidates for a ‘Theory of Everything’. Stephen Hawking originally believed that M-theory may be the ultimate ‘Theory of Everything’ but later suggested that the search for understanding of mathematics and physics will never be complete. There are some scientists who believe in the existence of the Higgs Boson particle popularly known as the God particle, which is supposed to explain many questions about the nature of our universe. Recently, a scientist2 declared that there is a ‘master computer that controls the working of the universe’. This same thought is expressed by some scientists in these words that the ‘universe is an intelligent universe’ or of ‘design’ and ‘fine-tuning’ in the universe.
I will narrate a story about myself. I was taking a bath. I had a bucket full of water before me. I had mug in one hand and soap in another. While applying the soap on my head, it suddenly slipped from my hand and fell. It went right into the bucket of water!
I began to cry: O God, I am completely helpless. There are billions and trillions of stars. None of them breaks apart and falls down in this manner. There are so many stars. If any star breaks apart and falls down in the ocean, what would happen? When my soap fell into the bucket of water, I didn’t understand how to take a bath with the water. I then thought what would happen if the stars were to fall in the ocean.
What if a planet were to fall into the ocean? There is great order in the universe. There is great discipline. It seems everything is held together tightly by someone. Nothing is allowed to go here and there. This thought comes more to the mind of a scientist than to us. He thinks how this has happened? The final discovery of science in the modern age is mentioned in Fred Hoyle's book The Intelligent Universe. Sir James Jeans had said that there is a mathematical mind behind the universe (The Mysterious Universe, p. 123). Fred Hoyle had said that there is an intelligent mind behind the universe. There has been development and evolution in science. In Newton's age, it was thought that matter is the building block of the universe. In Einstein's period, energy began to be considered the building block of the universe. After the age of Fred Hoyle, intelligence is considered as the building block of the universe. This is how the river of knowledge has progressed.
It isn't going from God to Godlessness. Rather the concept of God is becoming more and more strengthened. Science has discovered that there is intelligent design in the universe. Today many scientists accept that there is intelligent design in the universe. When the act of intelligent design has been proved, an Intelligent Designer too is proved. When there is intelligent design, it becomes automatically necessary that there should be an Intelligent Designer as well.
