If you get anything in this world, be it wealth, building, property, then that is to test you and know how you behave. But people make this a matter of pride for themselves. When God gives difficult conditions to a person, that is also for putting him to the test.
تَخَلَّقُوا بِأَخْلَاقِ اللَّهِ Cultivate divine attributes in yourself. (Sharhut Tahawiyah, p. 120) The greatest attribute of God is that He is merciful and compassionate. (Quran1:2) What is the meaning of Rahman and Rahim?
This is to be a well-wisher of people in a unilateral manner. It is to live in this world with a positive mind, in a unilateral manner. It is to unilaterally have good thoughts in your heart for everyone. Who is God's desired person? This will be known in the Hereafter, not in this world. A verse in the Quran says: رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمْ وَرَضُوا عَنْهُ (5.119)
This gives us the criterion. When God gives good circumstances to a person, it is for testing that person. But he makes it a matter of pride and claims that God has granted him so much. (89.15-16) If you get anything in this world, be it wealth, building, property, then that is to test you and know how you behave. But people make this a matter of pride for themselves. When God gives difficult conditions to a person, that is also for putting him to the test. But what does a person do? He takes a wrong lesson. He begins to question God and says: God gave good to someone and bad to others. Someone has so much, but I have nothing.
This is complaining mentality. We either have pride or complaints. Both kinds of mentality are undesirable for God. God desires: النَّفْسُ الْمُطْمَئِنَّةُ (89.27) النَّفْسُ الْمُطْمَئِنَّةُ means complex-free soul. God is pleased with a complex-free soul. Whom God is pleased with and who is God's desired person will be known to us only on the Day of Judgment. But you should make an effort to become a complex-free soul. Look at every thing from the perspective of God.
