The reality or essence of faith is the discovery of God. True faith is true when a person becomes aware of God’s existence and apprehends divine realities. As a result of this faith, a person’s entire life becomes oriented towards the Hereafter. In all matters, his eyes are on the Hereafter. In this world, instead of temporary gains, he makes the gains of the Hereafter the centre of his attention. When there are two sides to any matter – the worldly side and the otherworldly side, he ignores the consideration of this world and chooses what would be of value in the life Hereafter. For him, this faith becomes a source of limitless trust in God. At all times and in all events, he trusts God. Faith, in essence, is to have recognised the Lord when this recognition or discovery becomes part and parcel of a person’s heart and mind. Then his whole personality is transformed. He becomes a new human being.
Helplessness is in comparison to God, not in comparison to man. You all know that the greatest weakness in this world is arrogance. Why?
An arrogant person does not possess as it is thinking. He thinks he is great. He artificially believes that he is great. He becomes like a balloon which is filled with air and is blown up. Fear of God cuts a person to size and makes him Mr Nature. An arrogant person is Mr Artificial, while one who fears God is Mr Nature or Mr Realist. The greatest power in this world is for a person to be Mr Realist. The greatest weakness is to be Mr Artificial.
A person who discovers his helplessness in comparison to God doesn’t become weak. Rather he becomes a realist. The result of this discovery is not a weak personality. Rather, such a person develops realistic approach and realistic personality. This is the greatest thing.
Discovering your helplessness in comparison to God is not weakness, but realism. This is to discover your own nature. This is to discover a reality. This makes a person very strong. Such a person becomes realistic. His planning and thinking become realistic.
Such a person becomes very strong. If a person feels helpless in comparison to material things of the world, then he will surely feel weak. But knowing that you are helpless with respect to God is a discovery. That is not weakness, rather it is a discovery.
