In thinking that we are extraordinary we acknowledge only a portion of the truth. The other half of the truth is the fact that every individual, without exception, is born different, and is therefore unique. This part of the truth we unwittingly choose to ignore.
I believe the first task for any man or woman is to discover oneself. The more you discover yourself, the more you will be successful in life. An attribute found least in people is objectivity.
The condition to discover yourself is that you must have objective thinking. You must not play down nor must you exaggerate. Try to know yourself without understatement or exaggeration. This is a difficult task, but essential for success.
A person always makes one or the other mistake: he either overestimates himself or underestimates himself. If you overestimate yourself, you will have superiority complex. You will feel proud. If you underestimate yourself, you will have inferiority complex. Both will be obstacles to your success. The first task before any person is to objectively study oneself. And then decide what he must do. You can discover yourself during everyday experiences. Every day, you have negative experiences and positive experiences. Discover yourself in these experiences. For example, you want to have tea. You pick up your spoon but it fell from your grip. This incident too can help you discover yourself. You may have made a mistake because of which the spoon fell from your hand. You may have been in a hurry or held it from the wrong angle.
Every day there is an incident which tells you about your personality, the qualities you possess and the attributes you lack. For example, you have to leave for the airport or the railway station. If you reach late by a few minutes and miss your train or flight, then you should realize that you are not punctual. You are not time conscious. You don’t have the ability to do right planning. Discovering oneself is not a difficult task. Be watchful over what you do day and night. This will help you discover your personality.
