People go inside mosques for worship. But the instant they come out, they check their phones. Such people cannot receive any inspiration from God. They are already living in thoughts of things other than God.
I really like a story from the life of Gautam Buddha, who was a very wise man. One's of Buddha's disciples was a milkman. He once invited Buddha to his place and said he would offer him fresh milk. Gautam Buddha took a container with him to the milkman's home. He intentionally placed some mud in the container. When the milkman saw the mud, he first cleaned the container. Then he brought fresh milk in it. Gautam Buddha began to walk away with the milk container. The milkman asked Buddha why he was leaving without having imparted any wisdom. Buddha replied that he had already imparted wisdom. The milkman asked how he had done this. Buddha explained that the container he brought had dirt in it. The milkman had to remove all the dirt and then poured milk in it.
Then Buddha said to the milkman: "Your container is not clean. It is full of trash. You have to first purify the container of your heart and mind. Then only will you be able to receive wisdom." This is a very illustrative incident. God Almighty sends down inspiration every moment, night and day. But people do not possess a 'container' for receiving this inspiration. Their containers are already full. People's containers are full of thoughts of business, children, shopping, outing, and so on. Every person is stuck somewhere or the other.
People these days go to offer Namaz in mosques. They have mobile phones with them. The moment they exit the mosque, they check their phones to see if they have received a message. People go inside mosques for worship. But the instant they come out, they check their phones. Such people cannot receive any inspiration from God. They are already living in thoughts of things other than God. What was the condition of the Companions of the Prophet? Books tell us that when the Companions left the mosque after offering prayer, they would be completely quiet. They would silently proceed toward their houses. Nobody would speak at all. But today people immediately start chatting when they leave the mosque or start looking into their phones. This is not Namaz.
Such people are an example of this verse: "Woe to those who pray but whose hearts are not in their prayer." (107:4-5)
