Islam is not what we understand from the fanatics; Islam is what is enshrined in the Quran and Hadith for mankind to take guidance from. It teaches tolerance and patience to its adherents and asks them to become intellectually developed human beings, those who can harness the immense potential they were created with.
A true believer must treat all human beings kindly and justly, protect the needy and the innocent and prevent 'the dissemination of mischief: Mischief comprises all forms of anarchy and terror that threaten security, comfort and peace.
The Prophet of Islam (peace be upon him) always encouraged the spirit of enquiry. Unfortunately, present-day Muslims seem to have forgotten this key teaching of the Prophet. It is very important for all Muslims to spend more and more time in educating themselves in contemporary education as well as the rightful interpretation of the Quran and Hadith. Knowledge is a sign of guidance; knowledge is not limited to religion alone; and knowledge is as vast as the universe. The Quran makes a distinction between the learned and the ignorant: Are those who know equal to those who do not know? (39:9)
